Creative ways of making 360 imagery

The viewer's brain automatically tries to make sense of any depth and visual cues provided.

By manipulating these cues, interesting creative effects can be achieved that enhance the experience, rather than diminishing it.

"Impossible" vantage points

Image shot from within a machine
Cameras can go where people can't

Cameras can go where people can't. You can use this to your advantage by shooting in places where people would not be able to go or (more interestingly) would not fit.

Floating vs grounded

Greenhouse full of roses
Going for a "floating" platform may not necessarily be immersion breaking, if done appropriately

When dealing with close quarter images (e.g. rooms), choosing a scale that is larger than suitable can make it seem like the user is on a floating platform. This can be used for creative purposes and may not necessarily be immersion breaking if done appropriately.

Manipulating height

Factory floor from a vantage point close to the floor
Shooting at a height lower than 1.6m from the floor makes the viewer feel smaller

You can manipulate the viewer's sense of scale by shooting an image at a different height.

By shooting at a height lower than 1.6m from the floor you will start making the viewer feel smaller and smaller.

Conversely, by shooting at a height higher than 1.6m from the floor, the viewer will feel bigger and bigger.
